Brooklime
Veronica beccabunga

Brooklime grows abundantly in shallow streams, ditches and the margins of ponds. It has fat, succulent, hollow stems that are flushed red around the leaf-joints. They begin to open in May and continue to flower until September. The flowers are rich blue in colour, with a small centre ringed with scarlet. The specific name of this plant seems to be originate from the German name, Bachbunge bach, signifying a brook, and bunge, a bunch.
